Education
I was born in Marburg in 1970 and graduated from the Philippinum high school (Gymnasium) in 1989. I spent the next year studying in England and France. From 1990 to 1995, I studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Geneva and passed my first German legal state examination in 1996.
During my studies, I worked as a research assistant to Professor Peter Hommelhoff at the German and European Institute for Economic and Corporation Law (Institut für deutsches und europäisches Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftsrecht) at the University of Heidelberg.
During my mandatory two-year legal clerkship (Referendariat) at the district court of Heidelberg, I worked at the law firms of Schilling, Zutt & Anschuetz in Mannheim and Hengeler Mueller in Frankfurt and in New York. In 1998, I passed the second German legal state examination.
In 1999, I completed a Master of Laws program (LL.M.) in U.S. corporation law at New York University (NYU) and earned the title of “attorney at law” in New York after having successfully passed the New York Bar Examination. I have been admitted as a lawyer in the state of New York since 2000 but have never practiced law in the United States.
